A Home on Six Cents That Drew the Spotlight
A Prime Plot with No Room to Waste
The site measured just six cents in a prime urban neighbourhood. It was a high-value plot, and every square foot mattered. The home had to make full use of the land without feeling compressed. The brief was clear. The house needed to be bright, airy, and comfortable for everyday living. With both homeowners working in the IT sector, work-from-home provisions were not optional add-ons but part of daily life. Space had to serve multiple purposes without appearing crowded.
Making Vertical Space Work
B&M developed a contemporary double-storey residence with a built-up area of approximately 2,800 sq. ft. The four-bedroom layout was organised to maintain openness while ensuring privacy.
Light became a guiding factor in planning. Open internal connections and well-positioned windows brought daylight deep into the interiors. A ground-floor room with a bay window was designed with dedicated work-from-home provision, offering privacy without isolation.
The kitchen was planned as an open format, integrating special seating that could function as an informal workstation. This allowed work and daily routines to flow naturally within the same environment.
Balconies were detailed using GFRC jaali elements, adding visual character while maintaining ventilation and privacy. The structure also features a cantilevered car porch, freeing up ground space and reinforcing the contemporary expression of the house.
When Size Didn’t Set the Limit
The completed residence demonstrates efficient space utilisation without compromise in comfort. The footprint is optimised, circulation remains smooth, and rooms feel generous despite the compact site. Work-from-home requirements were built into the design rather than appended later. The home supports professional life and family life within the same footprint. The project gained wider recognition when it was featured in Manorama Dream Home, highlighting how a carefully planned 2,800 sq. ft. house on six cents can feel expansive and appreciated for its thoughtful execution.
